Failure was an influential American rock band (often also classified as alternative rock and/or space rock) that was active from 1990 to 1997, during which they recorded and released three albums, each more critically-acclaimed than its predecessor. They are often compared to other hard rock bands from that time that were similarly labeled as “alternative”, such as Nirvana, Soundgarden, or Bush, but are distinguished by their meticulous attention to textural sonic detail, inventive use of guitar effects and signal processing, and the overall expansive sound design of their later albums. Although mainstream success narrowly eluded them, they still have many dedicated fans, many of whom are fellow musicians and peers within the music industry.

Vetiver - To Find Me Gone

nitial Release: May 19, 2006
Dicristina Stair Builders STEP07X
Reviews:
With his second album, Vetiver mainstay Andy Cabic continues to make
low-key folk-rock with a mildly psychedelic tinge. Cabic’s songs are placid
reflective works; dreamy, and, at times trance-like ambience with the
layering of sighing backup vocals, subliminal background droning elements,
and campfire-in-the-woods percussion. At times he sounds like Marc Bolan
in his early days (especially on the closing track, “Down at El Rio”). Occasionally
it moves into tunes with the yearning, reflective quality of numerous
celebrated folk-rock singer/songwriters of the late ’60s and early ’70s, though
the material generally has a somewhat spacier, more ambient quality than what
you would have heard on such vintage releases.
Joanna Newsom and Devendra Banhart comrade Andy Cabic’s band Vetiver
(they’ve backed Newsom and Banhart often plays with the band) released its
second full-length, TO FIND ME GONE, in 2006. While the crystalline atmospherics
on the opener, “Been So Long,” and the piercing guitar drones that invade
“Red Lantern Girls” are effective reminders that this is music rooted in the
Haight-Ashbury psychedelic tradition, but better still is the album’s ramshackle
acoustic-driven shuffle that recalls the Grateful Dead at their most rootsy
and irresistibly carefree.

Stratovarius - Visions (1997)

Genre: Power Metal
Length: 61:04
Size: 442MB (444MB w/ extras)
Format: FLAC
Track List:
1. The Kiss Of Judas
2. Black Diamond
3. Forever Free
4. Before The Winter
5. Legions
6. The Abyss Of Your Eyes
7. Holy Light
8. Paradise
9. Coming Home
10. Visions (Southern Cross)
Review: Metal-Observer (9.5/10)
In my opinion, STRATOVARIUS are the best Speed/Melodic Metal band of this earth besides HELLOWEEN. Every new album has its hits and classics and except from their really weak debut album “Fright Night”, STRATOVARIUS had never released any bad album. One of the greatest works of the guys around guitar player Timo Tolkki is surely their “Visions” album from 1997.
The ten songs on this album are thorough on highest level and offer pretty much variety. Supercatchy and STRATOVARIUS typical speed songs like “Black Diamond” (hit), “Forever Free” or “Legions” meet midtempo stompers like “The Kiss Of Judas”, “The Abyss Of Your Eyes” or “Paradise”. New respectively stronger appearing on “Visions” is the classical vein of the band. The “crazy” Swede Jens Johannson always conjures up new classical elements from his keyboard and also Timo Tolkkis guitar playing has a strong classic influence. That also means, that the bombast factor on “Visions” hasn’t decreased. But STRATOVARIUS don’t exaggerate it. Exactly that subdued bombastic elements serve for the goose flesh on halfballads like “Before The Winter” and “Coming Home”. Singer Timo Kotipelto can completely convince with his crystal-clear voice this time. That wasn’t ever the case on their first records. But in the meantime, he also handles the high pitched passages and his voice remains always diversified.
On the instrumental “Holy Light” all musicians show off their abilities. This song offers a lot of time changes and the already known guitar/keyboard duels between Timo Tolkki and Jens Johansson. Unfortunately, the song gets a bit lenghty towards the end. Could have been shorter. But this is also the one and only critics on “Visions”. The titletrack on the end of the record crowns that all. This more than ten minutes lasting work contains all fortes of the band. There are calmer notes, fast passages, midtempo, bombast and insane solos. Actually the whole album in one song. The lyrics are about the prophecies of the mid-age savant Nostradamus and they are pretty interesting, in my opinion. But the song is in any case a brilliant closing for this superb album, where’s also nothing to criticize in terms of the production.
“Visions” is one of the best STRATOVARIUS records, in my opinion. It has its reasons why many songs apperar in the live set of Tolkki and Co. still today.
“Black Diamond”, “Paradise” or “The Kiss Of Judas” are hits for eternity.
All metalheads, which dig on HELLOWEEN, HAMMERFALL, SONATA ARCTICA or GAMMA RAY and don’t know this record or even the band, should check this out immediately! Fans have “Visions” already in their collection.

The Cosmic Jokers - Self-titled
MP3 | CBR 192k | 58 MB
released 1974 - Spalax cd reissue 2002
The Cosmic Jokers were a German space/electronic/psych supergroup, who recorded for the legendary Cosmic Couriers label in the mid 70s. The line up was Ash Ra Tempel’s Manuel Gottsching, Wallenstein’s Harald Grosskopf & Jurgen Dollase, Klaus Schulze and scene engineer/sideman Dieter Dierks. This CD was their debut from 1974, and it’s a pretty spectacular surge into 70s drugged byways, Gottsching’s trademark acid guitar on top of instrumental waves of analog synth gurgling and spaced out electronic effects. Until recently this stuff was largely unknown and way underrated, at least in American circles. All 5 Cosmic Jokers CDs come in pleasing digipaks.
For those of you that can’t get enough of this stuff, five albums were cranked out in 1974 including: (1) The Cosmic Jokers; (2) Galactic Supermarket; (3) Sci-Fi Party; (4) Gilles Zeitschiff; and (5) Planeten Sit In.
